Abstract
The purpose of this study is to describe how the process of applying Calistung media as a learning medium in Mathematics in grade 1 is to increase students' learning interest in recognizing letters, numbers, simple addition methods using Calistung media, and to find out the impact of using calistung media in class 1 SD Champion Al-hikmah Jayapura. The type of this research is qualitative research, a qualitative approach, the data source of the researcher uses primary data, namely data obtained directly from the research location, while secondary data is a source that does not directly provide data to researchers. The data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, and documentation of the data obtained which were analyzed using data collection, data reduction, data presentation, as well as conclusion drawing and verification. The results of the study show that calistung media has been applied using real objects such as using traditional games, using letter cards, and playing while learning with other games that can make students happy and by using calistung media teachers can create a fun and interesting learning atmosphere. The attention of students in learning, but for developments in this Calistung media in the knowledge of students it takes quite a long time, such as one week or a month for fluency in reading and counting so that using this Calistung media can be maximally successful for students.
