Abstract

Language politeness is something that shows awareness of the dignity of others in language, both when using spoken and written language. This study aims to determine the politeness strategies used by Seram EFL students and the implications of Seram EFL students' politeness on the communication process in semesters fourth, sixth, and eighth at IAIN Fattahul Muluk Papua. This study used a descriptive qualitative research method. The researcher chose semesters fourth, sixth, and eighth at IAIN Fattahul Muluk Papua which consisted of seven Seram EFL students. In addition, in the data collection process where researchers used observations and interviews. The researcher used four main phases of data analysis, namely: data collection, transcription, selection, and interpretation. From the results of data analysis, the researcher found that the conclusions regarding the politeness strategies used by Seram EFL students and the implications of the politeness strategies of Seram EFL students on the communication process in semesters fourth, sixth, and eighth at IAIN Fattahul Muluk Papua are as follows: first, the politeness strategies used by Seram EFL students that where Seram EFL students in the learning process only use two types of politeness namely negative politeness and bald on record. Second, the implication of Seram EFL students' politeness strategy in the communication process with other EFL students is that the politeness of language is maintained
