Abstract

This research focus about the caused of students reading anxiety in reading aloud and startegy used by students to overcome their reading anxiety in reading aloud. This research is important to do to find out the caused of reading anxiety in reading aloud and the strategies used by students to overcome their anxiety. This research is expected to be a reference to find out factors that make students feel anxiety in reading aloud and strategies to overcome students’ anxiety. From understanding the students reading anxiety in reading aloud, it can be useful for teaching and learning process. Design of this research used descriptive qualitative research. Qualitative research used for explain about some phenomenon in society that need to be investigated to find the answer. Technique to collected the data used observation and interview. Researcher took video during learning process and conducted interview section to found out out the caused of reading anxiety in reading aloud and the strategies used by students to overcome their anxiety. In this research, researcher used data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion for technique of processing the data and analysis. The researcher chose senior high school (MAPN Koya Barat) for the study and the participant is 10th grade students of MIPA-2. There were 22 students in the class and 10 students as a participant in interview section. From the observation and interview, researcher found that there three factors made students feel anxious in reading, those are fear of making mistakes, unfamiliar vocabulary, and unfamiliar topics. Furthermore, there three strategies to reduce students reading anxiety, these are preparation, relax, and ignoring audience.
