Abstract
This study aims to determine whether there is a correlation between students' reading habits and reading comprehension and to determine the factors that influence the reading habits of 9th grade students in MTs. Al-Muttaqin Jayapura. The research design used in this study was mix method (Quan - qual) with a critical inquiry research approach. Quantitative data was collected through total sampling technique with a total of 66 students, and for qualitative data 6 respondents were taken from students. The instruments used in this study were a questionnaire used to measure the level of reading habits, multiple-choice tests to measure students' reading comprehension levels, and interviews used to determine the factors that influence students' reading habits. The results of this study indicate that the tvalue is 0.489 and the ttable is 0.246. This means that tvalue > from ttable. Thus (Ha) is accepted and (H0) is rejected. With a correlation index of 0.489 which is in the range of 0.40 – 0.70, it can be concluded that there is a moderate correlation between students' reading habits and reading comprehension of 9th grade students’ in MTs. Al-Muttaqin Jayapura. The factors that influence students' English reading habits are internal factors such as motivation, vocabulary mastery, and mood swings; and external factors such as home environment, academic environment, social background, and facilities.
